Assessment Integration & Feasibility Analysis

Objectives

The technical, functional, architectural and infrastructure assessments, in and of themselves, do not provide a complete picture of how existing applications can evolve to meet short and long-term information requirements. But when these assessments are integrated and used as a basis for determining the feasibility of alternative redevelopment hypotheses, they form the foundation for creating the interim support and strategic redevelopment plans.

The assessment integration and feasibility analysis task consolidates this analysis prior to actually creating plans to enact various Positioning and/or Transformation tasks. Feasibility analysis is driven by objectives established at the start of Inventory/Analysis, the scenario being followed (see Comsys-TIM scenario section) and the alternative hypotheses proposed under objective setting/proposal development.

Specific objectives for the assessment integration tasks are as follows:

· Develop summary maintainability and reusability metrics for systems assessed based on prior assessment results

· Produce management summary the functional, technical, architectural and infrastructure condition of the systems that were assessed

· Based on technical conditions, produce general recommendations to improve short-term maintainability of current systems

· Based on combined factors, determine feasibility of proposed application hypotheses set forth under objective setting/proposal development task

· If possible, narrow proposed hypotheses to a single approach

Entrance Criteria

In many cases, not all of the following assessment will have been performed on all systems being assessed. In general, some of the systems will have undergone at least some of the following analysis tasks.

· Completion of the technical assessment

· Completion of the architectural assessment

· Completion of the functional assessment

· Completion of the IS infrastructure assessment

· A set of proposed hypothetical alternatives as set forth in objective setting/proposal development task

Tool/Technology Support

Any tools used in prior assessments leading to this point should be on hand in case further analysis or research is required. Otherwise, the following tools are required.

Spreadsheet

This tool is used to record metric results for this task and, optionally, as a way to track, categorize and summarize metric results.

Word processor

This is required to record analysis results.

Task Steps

The assessment integration and feasibility analysis task is comprised of the following task steps:

Develop Application Summary Metrics
Develop Assessment Findings Report
